Knysna Aids Council Benefits From Women's Day Of Prayer

Several Knysna area churches and ministries banded together for Women's World Day of Prayer on Friday 3 March, providing a much-needed boost for Knysna AIDS Council's programmes which support area families affected by HIV/AIDS.

At the Day of Prayer, which was held in the Dutch Reformed Church, members from several congregations presented the Council with new children's shirts, jerseys, trousers, socks, stationery and last but not least 41 pairs of shoes! The Council is donating the supplies to Mrs. Nombulelo Fanti, who runs an after-school programme for children in the Robololo area of Knysna.

With additional support from the local branch of Pep, the money collected by the churches went further than the leaders of the fund-raising drive had ever imagined would be possible.

"We wanted to do something this year that would provide long-term support to the families in our community," said Seugnet Heyneman, one of the organisers of the Prayer Day. "We worked with Millicent Seela of Knysna AIDS Council who provided us with a list of things that the children need. We want to keep working with the Council so we will be able to buy other things on the list as well."

Churches and ministries participating in Women's World Day of Prayer include the following: Dutch Reformed Church, Island Church & Southern Gateway Int., the Methodist and Presbyterian churches, Charisma Ministries, AGS Emmanuel Gemeente, the Anglican Church, Emmanuel Care Ministries, Shiloh Ministries,
United Reformed Church, Solid Rock Foundation, Kaleidoskoop and Christian Faith Mission.

Other donors include the Baptist Church, the Catholic Church, Belvidere Holy Trinity, and Vineyard.
