Knysna Aids Council celebrate with the children at their Children's Easter Party
Everyone gathered on 13 April at Nombulelo's home where the children celebrated Easter with Knysna Aids Council Staff and Volunteers. Food and gifts were distributed to the children and there were many happy faces.
Most of these children need Nombulelo's care due to the fact that their mother's are HIV positive and are often too weak to take care of their children. Nombulelo provides after school care and food, sometimes some of the children stay overnight when their mother's are going through a bad patch.
A recent volunteer for Knysna Aids Council is Emily Dredge from from Brighton, England, who has been a regular visitor to the children, helping Sunshine Rolisisu of the council to deliver food to the township. On Thursday afternoon she was there to lead the children in the singing and dancing.
Emily gave regular cuddles to Mary a little girl of 7, orphaned when her mother died two weeks ago. Her father passed away last year.
She has a sister of 15 who
attends the local school.
Emily who is 18 said "I
never realised how much
help the local people need...
" "It has been a really moving
experience to work for the
Aids Council and the memory
will stay with
me when I return to England..."
"I really want to return to South Africa to help the Knysna Aids Council again".
